P5 at Craigmillar Castle

Primary 5 visited Craigmillar Castle to find out more about the life and times of Mary Queen of Scots. They worked with a drama specialist to bring to life the plot hatched at the castle to kill Mary’s second husband Lord Darnley. They also investigated the bedroom where Mary was said to have stayed with her son James VI. Although it was a wet and cold day everyone said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

January is Scottish Focus Month

Every January the school enjoys a Scottish Focus Month where we absorb ourselves in Scottish heritage and history.  We welcome visitors to our school and enjoy trips to local places of interest as well as hosting our own ceilidhs in P1-6 with live music provided by PHS pupils, local residents and parents.  Our P7 pupils also put on their own Burns Supper.  We share what we have learnt at our Scottish assemblies.  Visit the gallery to view some of our work.

We are very lucky to be taking part in the world's largest public arts event where 100 cows will be on parade in the centre of Edinburgh. Towerbank was given one of only five minature cows to decorate that will be taking part in the parade. Primary 5 have used an Eco awareness theme
to produce some fabulous ideas. Mrs Alcorn's class and the school have Peigidh's mum, Barbara, to thank as she has used lots of our ideas to produce an eye catching work of art with a environmental friendly message.
Look out for our cow near Princes Street soon!

The 'Ecow' now has pride of place in our entrance hall.

Health Enterprise

Every Scottish school has been given the target of becoming a Health promoting school by 2007. Every school should also be involved in Enterprise Education.
Our aim at Towerbank is to develop the learning and teaching of health and enteprise in education through a whole school approach.
Our focus this year is on Healthy Eating. All our children from nursery to primary 7 are currently involved in Health/Enterprise topics. Our aim is to complete a Healthly Eating book, which will include examples of their work, which will then go forward to a ' Celebration of Enterprise' in June.
