Kia ora Towerbank School. I was a past pupil at Towerbank in 1961-68 last few years was at the Annexe in Bath Street great memories of this school and Miss Little who was my last teacher. Always remember Mr Brown the school janitor he was a good man. I have lived in New Zealand since 1973 and often think of home. The web page is great. Best wishes to staff and pupils.

Hey Towerbank, can't believe that it has been two years since I left the school .. am glad to see some familiar faces on the guestbook page. P7A .. I want to wish you all the best as you make the journey into High School ... I wish that I could have been there for your graduation, however Mr. L may be moving onto another part of the world, which is exciting! If there is any way that I can make it to the ceremony, you know I will be there!

Hello, this is Amy MacDonald, I was in Towebak until last year( P4A, 2008) We moved to Spain and we now live in Costa Brava. I'd like to say that I miss all of my friends from Mr Hepburns'class. I hope to visit Towerbank in August. My school here in Blanes is called after the writer Joaquim Ruyra and it reminds me of Towebank.

How lovely to see how much current pupils love the school as much today as I did from 958-66: fairytale unicorns mural in the school hall; bouncing a tennis ball from across the playground off the little ledge that runs round the building; the whole school playing British Bulldog every playtime and lunchtime in the playground -before it was banned.
My brother Alan remembers one verse of the school song. You can really belt it out - it's uplifting and ... well a bit over the top but ... och nostalgic and great!

School is the cradle and strength of a nation
Forth from its gates springs the youth of today
Filled with the power and the strength of creation
New worlds to fashion, old orders to sway
Towerbank we praise thee... etc

A comment on a school forum suggests Mrs Dale wrote it but I think it long predates her reign.
Looking forward to the concert when you get it together?

Hi. My name was Catherine Potter and I attended Towerbank from around 1953 until I went to Portobello High in or around 1962.
I am now living in Canada and wondered if anyone has any pictures of that period as most of mine have been lost over the years.
Would love to hear from you all

Greetings from New Zealand

I attended Towerbank Primary for a few months in 1985- While my parents travelled around Europe. I stayed with an Aunty in Portabello I was five and returned home to New Zealand unbeknownst to me - with a strong Scottish accent.
I will return to Edinburgh later this year

cheers- Alli

I was at Towerbank Primary School! I recall all the good memories and of course some of the bad ones too! Mrs Gilmour was the best headteacher alive man! And all the other teachers were very very good aswell.. I hope to come back and visit again soon, as I am now in 3rd year at Portobello High School.. Secondary and primary school are both far different from each other but my teachers from Towerbank are much better remembered(in a good way)!

I LOVE the website, its so good to know whats going on in the schoo like the plans for the school as i used to come as a pupil and now work in the after school club. I tried to get onto the kids zone and was unable to but will try again later to see what you have there. Keep up the good work with the eco-code and things. I hope you can achieve your next eco-flag when it is time. I know you won't have any trouble getting it though.

I was at Towerbank from 1959 to 1966 so I don't thnk any of my teachers are still there.....!! I was really lucky to be there, right beside the beach where we sometimes got to play football as our PE lesson! I remember the school with a lot of affection.

Great site, I left Towerbank a few years ago.....well, 1982 to be exact. and still have fond memories of the teachers and clerical staff. They added to the foundations that made me who I am today! Good luck, and best wishes for the future, to Portobello's best school!

Hello, I couldn't resist emailing. I was a pupil in the late 70's and 80's. head teacher then was Mr Jackson. I have many fond memories of Towerbank, and I miss the beach dearly. I am currently living with my American husband in Massachusetts USA, and have a little girl and a baby boy. Best of luck to you all, and congratulations on your eco-friendliness. I remember the first signs of a garden being started when I was in my last year there or so.

I was a pupil at Towerbank Academy in the mid-1950s. One of my teachers was Miss Jeffries. I remember walking to school and back along the promenade, and climbing onto the backs of the seats to escape the waves that crashed over when it was stormy. I'm hoping to find some photos of the period - and even a photo of Miss Jeffries to see if she is how I remember her!

Hi I am a former pupil of Towerbank. I attended the school from 1962 - 1969 and it was a fantastic time in my life. My teachers were Mrs Cass, then Mrs Buchan and finally Mr Rutherford who used to take us down to the beach where the boys used to play football and the girls would go for a walk along the beach. Love your website and would like to visit my old school sometime. Keep up the good work :-)

I was a pupil from your school back in the seventies..it is great to see that it is still going strong and I only wish that I was a pupil again, it seems like you all have great fun. The headteacher in my day was Mr Grandison.

I would just like 2 say that towerbank is a great school and that i definately would recommend to other parents to send their children to it. As i went there last year the staff were all really nice especially the head teacher Mrs Gilmour.
I hope that it is still like it used to be and that they dont change anything about it as it has so many memorys of last years p7s and that we all miss the school so much and we hope that we will see it again.

This website is a very useful resource. Some comments though - it would be helpful to have the minutes of the School Board on the site. On the Parent's Page it was difficult to read the letters and to see clearly what the proposed plans for refurbishment were about which is a shame as a lot of interesting information is here I am sure. Hope these comments are helpful.
